Our Foundation

Dusk-sequoia was established in 2003 by a group of conservation architects and heritage planners who shared a conviction that Britain's architectural legacy deserved more than cursory protection. We believed that thoughtful stewardship could accommodate contemporary needs without sacrificing historical integrity.

Two decades on, that founding principle remains central to everything we do. Our team has grown to include specialists in structural conservation, planning policy, historical research, and sustainable building practices, yet our approach remains collaborative and client-centred.

Our Philosophy

We approach each project with the understanding that buildings are not museum pieces but living spaces that must serve their occupants. Conservation is not about freezing a structure in time but about managing change in ways that respect significance whilst enabling continued use. This philosophy guides our recommendations, whether we are advising on minor alterations or comprehensive restoration programmes.

Research-Led

Every recommendation stems from thorough investigation of a building's history, construction, and significance. We consult archives, examine physical fabric, and review previous interventions before proposing any course of action.

Pragmatic Solutions

Heritage protection must be achievable. We focus on practical outcomes that owners can implement and maintain, balancing aspiration with the realities of budgets, building physics, and regulatory constraints.

Clear Communication

The heritage sector carries its own vocabulary and procedures. We translate these for our clients, ensuring you understand the implications of listings, the requirements of applications, and the reasoning behind our advice.

Our Expertise

The team at Dusk-sequoia brings together complementary skills honed across hundreds of projects nationwide. Our principal consultants hold accreditation from the Institute of Historic Building Conservation and maintain active relationships with Historic England, Cadw, and Historic Environment Scotland.

We have advised on properties ranging from medieval churches to Edwardian villas, industrial mill conversions to designed landscapes. This breadth of experience means we can draw on relevant precedents and apply lessons learned to your particular situation.
